A Nigerian teacher identified as Michael Showunmi has continued to be an inspiration to many people by impacting lives despite his physcial disability.
Showunmi who graduated from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (Lautech) in 2014 works tirelessly to ensure that children whose education is threatened due to unavailability of funds are sponsored.
The graduate of Mechanical Engineering sponsors these children’s education through his foundation, Raising Star Africa.
His physical disability
Michael, who uses two crutches, said he wasn’t born physically challenged, adding that he walked till about three years old till he suddenly lost his ability to walk on his own.
According to him, his parents tried to salvage the situation as they consulted many doctors but all to no avail.
Michael said there is nothing he can do about his physical disability other than to use his life to glorify God.
Michael’s heart of gold
Michael and his team at Raising Star Africa go on the streets to look for out-of-school children to put them back in school and foot the bills.
The young man’s humanitarian work has earned him recognition and several awards, but what gives him fulfillment is the smiles he has put on the faces of many children and their parents.
Apart from out-of-school children that benefit from Michael’s heart of gold, physically-challenged children also do.
The young man also assists poor parents in setting up businesses to cater for their families.
Michael’s Raising Star Africa relies on donors’ support and the young man disclosed that the foundation raised N6.2 million in 2021.
Indeed, Michael is raising star for Africa and he has further proven that there is ability in disability.
