The young man didn’t stop there as he bagged a master’s degree (distinction) in Statistics from the University (Unilag) of Lagos in 2021.
Felix’s love for Statistics
Speaking with Muse.ng, Felix said his love for Statistics can’t be explained.
In his words: “No decision can be made without applying at least a concept in Statistics.”
According to the young man, he has always been an average person before gaining admission into Yabatech.
He said: “My first day in class I remembered it was Introduction to Trigonometry “MTH 112”, I was late for the class and the class was full so I received the class from the window.
“It was scary seeing a lot of computations because I didn’t have a background in further mathematics but as time went on I became less scared and began to get the whole picture of the course because I had good hand that made the journey easy from friends to lecturers.
“As I progressed I became better and saw the real application of statistics and it’s beautiful and that made me want to know more in that field.”
His social life
Felix said despite all the hard work, his social life didn’t suffer in school.
In his words: “I have a social life oh, I am in a group called the SBAs, we have fun after all the serious hard work. Most of my Saturdays are for fun.
Felix’s distraction
The first class graduate said his major distraction was trying to make ends meet as he had to do odd jobs and skip classes.
In his words: “My major distraction was trying to make ends meet because I have to do odd jobs and skip classes which almost cost me my grade because I had to augment the little my parent and siblings gave to me.
“But everything turned out well and I am grateful especially to my mum, my youngest sibling Miracle, dad and the whole family. Forgot to mention that my dad is a Statistician too.”
Winning no awards
Despite his academic feats, Felix has never won any awards but he’s happy that he’s not disappointing people who believe in him, adding that this is a win for him.
In his words: “I have never won any award but I’m still happy I’m not disappointing everyone who still believes in me and that’s a win for me.”
Next plan for Felix
The young man disclosed that he would be going for his PhD in Linear Modelling and Biostatistics.
He advised those aspiring to graduate with a first class to remain focused and always set their eyes on the goal and also have fun while at it.
