Lagos-based Nigerian couple identified as Akeem and Adijat Bolaji have disclosed that communication errors and ego are some of the factors responsible for broken homes.

According to the father of one, there is need for communication between couples and they shouldn’t allow their ego to destroy what they’ve built.

The lovebirds, who spoke with Muse.ng, said they were best of friends from school before walking down the aisle.

Breaking up twice

They both promised each other never to leave but to stick together no matter what. But they broke up twice for a few years before coming back together to continue what they had started.

Speaking on the greatest lesson he has learnt in marriage, Akeem said: “What I’ve learnt in marriage is that no one is perfect except one just chooses who is perfect for oneself.”

“I love my wife with her flaws”

Like Fuji maestro Saheed Osupa who said in one of his songs that his wife has flaws but he loves her with those flaws, Akeem stated that he loves everything about the woman of his dream, including her flaws.

Speaking on what she loves most about her husband, Adijat said she loves the fact that her man is her friend and he acts as such instead of acting like the usual African hubby.

In her words: “He acts as friend rather than acting like the usual African husband.”

Checking my husband’s phone

Some women can’t resist the urge to check their husbands’ phones and Adijat isn’t an exception.

She admitted that she checks Akeem’s phone, adding that she does it for the fun of it.

Understanding each other

Adijat, whose marriage with her hubby is one year and a month, said understanding has kept them going, adding that couple should endeavour to understand each other.

She advised intending couples to ensure that they speak out on issues affecting them and settle them without involving a third party.

In her words: “Couple should speak out and sort out issues mostly without third party.”
