Jacy Art said her love for art started when she was a little child

A young Nigerian fabric collage artist identified as Jachy Art has disclosed that she was often mistaken for a ritualist when she started her journey into fabric collage art.

Jachy, who spoke with Muse.ng, said this is because she went around to meet tailors in her area to beg them for fabric wastes.

In her words: “But many of them see me as a ritualist. Maybe they think I wanted to do something negative with the materials.

“Some snubbed me while others insulted me and sent me away from their shops.”

Jachy said she has been drawing professionally for over years but ventured into fabric collage art two years ago.

The young lady said her love for art started when she was a little child.

She said: “Since I was little I always loved to draw and I knew that I was going to be an artist for life.

“It’s something that was never hidden in me. I was creative right from when I was little.”

Jachy Art said patronage for her work is low because many people complain that they can’t afford it.

Jachy said her greatest moment as a fabric collage artist was when she presented her work to Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

According to the artist, presenting her work to Osimhen who plays for Serie A club Napoli took her art to another level.

Jachy said Nigerians are appreciative of her work and they love the fact that it’s unique.

She, however, said one of the challenges she’s facing is patronage because many people complain that they can’t afford her work despite the fact that she has reduced the price as much as she can.

In her words: “But in this Nigeria most people don’t really know the value of art, so it’s not their fault.

“Another challange is support. Nigeria has a lot of talented artist, many of them, but what we lack is support, especially financial support to keep pushing our work.”

Jachy said she sees herself owning her own gallery in the next few years and travelling around the world for the purpose of art.
